The Department of Health and Human Services Sept. 4 announced that it awarded $11.2 million in grants to 15 recipients across 14 states to develop new physician residency programs in rural and tribal communities. The Health Resources and Services Administration’s Rural Residency Planning and Development Program awarded the grants. HHS said the programs will cover family medicine, internal medicine, preventive medicine, psychiatry and general surgery. The department said each recipient will receive up to $750,000 over three years to support planning and development activities, which include securing accreditation, developing curricula, recruiting and developing faculty, and recruiting residents.
